Activity Description
In this CME Outfitters Grand Rounds activity, expert faculty will guide participants through a discussion of the pathophysiology and associated complications of short bowel syndrome (SBS), currently available and emerging SBS treatment strategies promoting enteral autonomy and reducing the need for parenteral nutrition (PN), and how to develop interdisciplinary and interprofessional coordinated care plans for patients with SBS managed in the community setting.
Target Audience
Community-based gastroenterologists, primary care practitioners (PCPs), internists, pediatricians, physician associates (PAs), nurse practitioners (NPs), nurses, pharmacists, and general surgeons caring for patients with SBS
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this activity, learners will be able to better:
- Identify the pathophysiology and associated risk factors including disease-related complications of SBS
- Evaluate available and emerging SBS treatment strategies to promote enteral autonomy and reduce the need for PN
- Develop interdisciplinary and interprofessional coordinated care plans for patients with SBS being managed in the community setting
